Living In Christchurch

Christchurch has a population of about 340,000 people and is known as "The Garden City." It is very attractive in appearance and atmosphere, has many parks, gardens, rivers and beaches as well as festivals, activities and entertainment events. The land around Christchurch is flat with wide streets and avenues which makes it ideal for cycling and walking. Because of its central location, it is easy to visit many interesting places in the South Island, whether you are interested in outdoor activities such as skiing or tramping, or want to visit cultural and historical sites.

Climate
The climate of Christchurch is temperate. The average daytime temperature in summer is 22 degrees Celsius so it is cooler than cities such as Bangkok, Hong Kong or Tokyo. The average daytime temperature in winter is 9 degrees Celsius so it is a little warmer than, say, Tokyo or Seoul. The temperature can, however, drop to below freezing point, so very warm clothes are required. The temperature can change a lot in one day, so be prepared for all weather conditions. You also need to remember that, being in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are opposite to countries in the Northern Hemisphere.
